Joyful Journey Hot Springs Spa & Event Center is honored to host:

The Art of Well-Being: A Restorative Retreat

Calling all caregivers and healthcare professionals! THANK YOU!

We know you work hard every day to support those who are unable to help themselves. We know there is love in what you do. We also know it is one of the hardest, most physically, mentally and emotionally challenging undertakings, and that it can be difficult to find time to care for yourself.

Joyful Journey Hot Springs Spa & Event Center, located in the mystic San Luis Valley of Colorado, would like to show our appreciation for all you do by offering a 5-day, 5-night restorative retreat. The retreat will include yoga, meditation, Emotion-Focus Therapy (EFT), healing waters, spa therapies, nurturing nature and the all-important community of understanding. Plus, lots of downtime. Yes, that’s correct, do-what-you-want-with-it downtime, such as enjoying the simple pleasures of the sun, moon, and stars. You will leave the retreat feeling rested, rejuvenated and empowered, along with memories that will lift your spirits, and tools that will support you through your days and nights.

Attend the retreat for as little as $750.

Registration closed on June 15th. For more information, contact Charmaine, Group Coordinator, at (719) 256-4328.

Retreat Schedule & Description

June 27th – July 2nd, 2021

SUNDAY – June 27, 2021

  • 4 pm Check-in: Arrive by 6pm to participate in opening dinner and introductory circle.
  •

MONDAY – June 28, 2021

  • 9am – 10:30am: Yoga Basics. Facilitator: Jason Denham. This class will be an introduction to the yoga practice. The class will move slower through foundational yoga poses to focus on alignment, breath, and sensitivity awareness in the body.
  • 10:30am – 11am: Break/Snacks/Be in silence: An invitation for contemplation
  • 11am – 12:30pm: Self-stewardship, Journals, Sharing and Building Community, Celebrating Aha! Moments. Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • How often have we heard “self-care” used in buzzworthy media, at our jobs, etc.? When used but not practiced, we train ourselves to dismiss the work of non-action. Self-stewardship is about reframing the terminology so that we can use it as a means to practice caring for ourselves. We will do this by talking about what we are doing to ignore opportunities for self-care, discuss alternative options and journal about what we can do otherwise for different results. Discussions will also include: boundary setting for yourself and others and interrupting patterns that do not serve.
  • 12:30pm – 1:30pm: Lunch
  • 2pm – 3pm: Labyrinth meditation walk. Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • On the Joyful Journey grounds, a beautiful and spiritually blessed labyrinth was constructed of stones and will be a perfect place to practice a meditative walk, placing focus on each step and the breath. This practice may aid those in motion moving from one client to the next, making every step one takes, a meditative step.
  • 3pm – 7pm: FREE TIME, with options for AIS, Private Coaching, or schedule your massage!
  • During this time, guests may also enjoy private sessions speaking with Jason about what may have come up during practice, or finding time to unwind with a pre-scheduled massage (price is included in the program package) with one of our dedicated healers at Joyful Journey.
  • 7pm – 8pm: Slow Flow yoga with Brittainy Roth (Optional)
  • After having spent some time on the basics in the first Yoga session, participants are encouraged to slow it down and be with the breath as we flow through a few poses and connect with the body in the moment. Manageable moves for all, with modifications to help you find your flow.
  • FREE TIME
  •

TUESDAY – June 29, 2021

  • 9am – 10:30am: Restorative Yoga. Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • This class will be one where we place emphasis on the foundation. Staying in the poses closer to the ground and in quiet observance of the calm abiding that yoga teaches us. Here, participants are invited to use the breath to release heaviness that sometimes gets carried along with us. We will also attempt to allow the muscles to lengthen rather than to force. A continuation from the previous classes.
  • 10:30am – 11am: Break/Snacks/Be in silence: An invitation for contemplation
  • 11am – 12:30pm: Resiliency discussion. Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • When we want to build resilience, it may not necessarily mean putting on a bunch of armor for battle, but rather we look for ways to let go of concrete thoughts about how things are “supposed” to be. We shift our perspective, seeing the world through a broader lens. Discussion about Impermanence: change is a constant one can count on. Attachment and aversion – Creating expectations and how that can set us up for feeling frazzled. Shutting down to the things we do not like, leaving us bothered unnecessarily when we cannot control experiences.

TUESDAY – June 29, 2021 (continued)

  • 12:30pm – 1:30pm: Lunch
  • 2pm – 5/6pm: If we are what we eat, I’m either fast, cheap or easy: Alternative Nutrition. Facilitator: Cindy Tennessen
  • When we feel our time is not our own, we tend to rush tasks that take time. Simple food prep and mindful eating can alter our choices and enhance our well-being.
  • FREE TIME
  •

WEDNESDAY – June 30, 2021

  • 9am – 10:30am: Restorative Yoga. Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • A class that is intended to seek restorative energy in poses that involve some staging poses. We will find ways to release tension and light the fires within, using ocean breath and power stances.
  • 10:30am – 11am: Break/Snacks
  • 11am – 11:30am: Building community and Celebrating Aha! Moments
  • 11:30am – 12:30pm: Lunch
  • 1:00pm – 5:00pm: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). Facilitator: Marcella Friel
  • Tapping is a gentle, powerful self-help tool that reduces the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger stress. Tapping combines coaching techniques with acupressure in the form of fingertip tapping on acupuncture points. The tapping acts as a circuit breaker on the electromagnetic signal of the stress and diffuses its emotional trigger.
  • 5pm – 8pm: FREE TIME
  • 8pm – 9pm: Slow Flow Yoga and Sound Healing (Optional). Facilitator: Brittainy Roth
  •

THURSDAY – July 1, 2021

  • 9am – 10:30am: Restorative Yoga. Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • Ensnare the senses during this flow where we dim the lights; discover scents throughout the room such as essential oils, and incense; hear music; and move through restorative poses. We leave room for Yoga Nidra to tread on the edge of sleep, lucid dreaming.
  • 11am: Leave for Hike to the Great Sand Dunes Park and Preserve (bring your journals!). Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • Off to the Sand Dunes to soak in the sun’s rays and by all means play! We will set aside a short period for discussion or journaling and some silence/stillness.
  • 12pm – 4pm: Packed Lunches, Hike and Photos
  • Moving at the speed of the world is something not many think to take the time to exercise. On this hike we will do the best we can to look up and down to notice what might fly by too quickly when we are filled with purpose. One foot in front of the other and appreciate the beauty of the San Luis Valley. Individual and group photos will be taken to commemorate your commitment to you and your new-found friends.
  • 6pm – 8pm: Group dinner & Affirmations
  • A time to break and talk about nothing and everything, while laughing with abundance. Share your experience and enjoy a little decompression with friends.
  • FREE TIME
  •

FRIDAY – July 2, 2021

  • 9am – 10am: Yoga (optional). Facilitator: Jason Denham
  • 11am: Check-out, Goodbyes and Depart
