Local plants
Many flowers and plants are so pretty to look at! But not all plants are pet-friendly. In this post, I will show some of the local plant life we have growing here and share my thoughts about my four-legged friends engaging with them.
Rocky Mountain Columbine
I am told that these have shades of purple, but all I see is blue. But my furry friends, don’t nibble on them or you may really end up feeling “blue”!
Prickly pear cactus
I don’t understand! They don’t taste like pears, but they sure are prickly! The flowers and the fruits are both edible for humans. I tell my doggo friends to select another plant to chew, as this one hurts!
Desert Sage
Many of my human friends love sage. The type of sage that you burn may differ from wild sage, so please do not randomly burn it (some cause hallucinations). This plant does not taste good, hurts to eat, and may upset your stomach.
Lilac
This can be a large and beautiful bush, and humans certainly sniff it a lot! I cannot reach that high to see what the fuss is about.
Hollyhocks
I was today years old when I learned that the hollyhock is related to a hibiscus plant. It is another beautiful flower I don’t wish to smell or eat, although the ASPCA says it is safe.
Sunflowers
Everyone loves sunflowers, and their seeds are delicious. Although eating sunflowers is considered safe in moderation, I do not recommend it like my friend pictured here! Chew slowly, my friends.
These are just a small sample of all the plants we have here. But honestly, they all look very similar and blue! I don’t understand humans and what they call colors. Just wag your tail and smile at them, pretending they make sense. They seem to love that.
